American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA)

AVCA Background
The history of chiropractic adjustments for animals began at Palmer Chiropractic College in the early years of chiropractic education. Animal chiropractic education today draws on the educational background of human chiropractic and veterinary medicine to create a profession, which, while it has some ties to both professions, is unique, and deserves recognition as a separate health care discipline.

The AVCA was formed in 1989 by a group of veterinarians and chiropractors interested in furthering the profession of animal chiropractic. It was determined early on that the success of the organization would be realized through education and research, stringent testing standards, mandatory continuing education, practice standards for certified doctors, and lobbying for fair and equitable legislation that protects both the doctor as well as the public.

Dr. Tranberg is a Certified AVCA Chiropractor
Dr. Tranberg has attended more than a 150 hours of education specific to animal chiropractic care, and is one of less than 1500 AVCA-certified chiropractic doctors worldwide.

AVCA Goals
One of the major goals of the AVCA is to provide the public with unhampered access to ethical doctors trained in animal chiropractic. The public has the right of protection from fraudulent claims, procedures, and practitioners. AVCA certified doctors are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and responsible manner. They should recognize their own capabilities and limitations. In doing so, the health of the animal will be their main concern. Sanctions and disciplines will be levied for the certified doctor who refuses to follow the standards.

Today, the AVCA has a three-fold mission:

  • To function as a professional membership group.
  • To promote animal chiropractic to professionals and the public.
  • To act as the certifying agency for doctors who have undergone animal chiropractic training.
